Here are a few guys I would like to see the Red Sox go after to bolster the outfield and would make sense for the team:
Carlos Lee- He is hitting .205 with 5hrs and 20 RBI, could be a solid right handed hitting outfielder that could play left field and give them some power. Houston is going to be rebuilding, and if the Sox get him they could move Jacoby Ellsbury back to center and move Mike Cameron to the bench.
Andrew McCutchen- This move is a bit of a stretch, but he would be an excellent complement to Ellsbury in the outfield now and in the future. He is hitting .313 with 5hrs and 13 RBI. it would probably cost the Red Sox a lot to get him, but he would be worth it.
Carlos Quentin- He is young and is a solid right fielder who may be able to transition to left. You move Ellsbury back to center and maybe do a platoon with him and Cameron. Quentin is hitting .207 with 4hrs and 24 RBI.
Adam Jones- A trade with the Baltimore Orioles may no be realistic because of being in the same division, but this guy is simply spectacular. Stats are .254 with 5hrs and 15 RBI. The key stat is that he has a .987 fielding percentage, which would mean he would follow Theo Epstein's run prevention philosophy. This guy will be a future star.
Dude good article except Carlos Lee is hitting .205 that absolutely sucks. Mike Cameron is able to hit better than Carlos Lee and he is a better outfielder. I don't think that would be a worthwhile acquisition for the Red Sox to invest in. On the other hand, McCutchen and Jones are brilliant players. There is no way the Pirates would give up McCutchen though. He is way too valuable a player on their team, even though their team is awful. Jones is fantastic, but, once again, Baltimore would never give up Jones unless they got a dominant pitcher or several good players including prospects.

The best player in this discussion is McCutchen, and he is also the least likely for the Sox to get. I would go for Carlos Lee because just last year he was batting in the 300's with 20 plus homers, so maybe he can get hot, plus, he would be easier to obtain than McCutchen and Jones becuase they are both young talent. However, there is no one really worthwhile out their for outfielders right now so I think the Sox should lay low.

I agree with all these possible options. But do you think the redsox will pursue Adrian Gonzalez even though ortiz has picked it up and they are set at first and third with Beltre and Youk and it will be even tougher to get him now that the Padres are in contention they will probably be unwilling to give him up. The sox still need a big bat in the lineup I don't know if I trust Ortiz. Also what do you think are the chances they trade Mike Lowell.

Damon I think Mike Lowell is to old to get anyone valuable out of a trade deal for him. Also, he has the thumb injury which already made a trade not happen because he didn't pass the physical. I think his days are numbered as a player in the MLB, but who knows they might get a cheap deal for him, but I doubt it. Secondly, I think that Adrian Gonzalez would be a nice add on for the Red Sox, but with the way Ortiz has shown resiliency and fought back into near the lead for homers in the AL I think it is questionable whether or not the move would be a good one. I think that Youk is a fantastic player and Beltre is good to so the corners are set and it isn't worth paying so much money for a player that you would use for DH

I agree Sully, I think Gonzalez is a very good player but in the Red Sox roster I just can't see him fitting in with a first baseman as good as Youk and a hot DH like Ortiz.

I agree that Lowell is not a player of high value anymore. The sox would not be able to get a very good player for him, and if they did there would need to be more to the deal than just Lowell. Since he has had such great past few seasons with the sox maybe he would want to retire with them, but I'm not sure if he wants his career to end yet.

Paul I totally agree with what you are saying. I mean I wouldn't want my career to end, but I think there comes a time when players need to call it quits. I think that Mike Lowell might as well go out on a high note, instead of bouncing around and hitting around .220 for three seasons before petering out of the league on a bad note. So if I was giving advice to Mike Lowell I would tell him to step aside and allow younger players to step into his place. I really like Mike Lowell. He is a classy guy, and a good player, But the time comes for every player.

I like the article Nat but i think the Red Sox need to focus on pitching more than they need to focus on hitting. They have scored the most runs in the league so far this year with 314. They also lead the league in hits and RBI's. As for their pitching, they are ranked 20th in the league for team ERA. They have allowed the tenth most runs as a team in the league, and only one team who has allowed more runs than them are above .500, the Los Angeles Angles. They need to add another pitcher in the bullpen if they want to be successful.

Ya, but what pitchers do you think they can get who can make a difference? I could see a Bard type come through the minors but I can't really see the Sox getting a quality, seasoned starter who will make a difference this season or offseason. Unless you guys can think of any?
